10-Man Side Opened Their Euro 2024 Campaign in Disappointing Fashion

Angus Gunn Produced Excellent Save to Deny Switzerland

WEB Scotland wilted in the face of a scorching Germany performance as Steve Clarke's 10-man side opened their Euro 2024 campaign with a disappointing 3-1 defeat in Hamburg on Sunday. The Scots were forced to play with a numerical disadvantage for over an hour after John McGinn was sent off in the 34th minute, and Germany took full advantage. Scotland started brightly and took the lead through Che Adams in the 23rd minute. However, Germany responded with three goals in the space of 15 minutes before half-time, with Serge Gnabry, Timo Werner and Leroy Sane all finding the net. Though the scoreline suggests a convincing Germany win, Scotland were in the game for large parts, and ultimately it was McGinn's dismissal that proved decisive. Despite the setback, Scotland showed commendable resilience and spirit in the second half. Angus Gunn produced an excellent save to deny Switzerland in the 65th minute, which kept the score at 3-1. However, the Scots were unable to find a way back into the game and Germany held on for a comfortable victory. The defeat is a disappointing start to Scotland's Euro 2024 campaign, but there were some positive signs from Clarke's side. If they can maintain the same level of commitment and determination in their remaining games, they will give themselves a good chance of qualifying for the knockout stages.
