England boss Gareth Southgate 'keen on Manchester United job' amid Old Trafford uncertainty

The Three Lions manager has been linked with the Red Devils hotseat in recent weeks following a poor run of form under Erik ten Hag.

Southgate, who has been in charge of England since 2016, is said to be interested in the United job and is understood to have discussed it with close friends.

The 52-year-old has a good relationship with United chief executive Richard Arnold and is said to be a fan of the club. However, it is understood that Southgate is not actively seeking a move away from England and is happy to see out his contract, which runs until 2024.

United are currently searching for a new manager following the dismissal of Erik ten Hag. The Dutchman was sacked on Monday after a 4-0 defeat to Crystal Palace, which left the club seventh in the Premier League table.

Southgate is one of a number of managers who have been linked with the United job, along with Mauricio Pochettino, Luis Enrique and Julen Lopetegui.

The England manager is likely to be a popular choice with United fans, given his success with the national team. Southgate has led England to the semi-finals of the World Cup and the final of the European Championship.

However, it remains to be seen whether Southgate would be interested in leaving England for United. The Three Lions boss is said to be happy in his current role and is focused on leading England to success at the 2024 European Championship.
